A: If you upgrade your OS or update your Rom, Usually MKID will change. That you need to provide your MapKing product authorization code and new MKID to support@mapasia.com to apply a new registration code.
Q1
How can I install MapKing and process
the online registration ? Is this a very complicated
process ?
A1
Please follow installation and registration
procedures and screen shot in page 3. MapKing
is a matured product with a great number of
copies sold already so you need not worry about
this. |
Q2
My PC does not have internet connection.
Is there any other way I could register the
map ?
A2
Map products can only be registered through
online connection to our server. |
Q3
My PC is connected to the internet but
I still couldn’t get the map registered.
A3
Most likely the server is temporary out
of service due to maintenance or unauthorized
intrusion. You can use the map without registration
for a trial period of 5 days. Please try to
register again a few hours or even one day later. |
Q4
Points of attention when I register Pocket PC
version:
1. The PDA Name (From 'settings'->'Owner
information) MUST be identify with the name
you registered from Internet. No expectation
of bold, fonts, encoder etc.
2. PDA name is not equal to PDA ID, which can
be modify in ' Owner information' only.
3. The Registration codes are composes by 16
digit characters and numbers in UPPERCASE ONLY.
4. Open the correct map file for difference
registration code.
5. Please do the following setting. Unclick
the option 'Load recent map in startup' which
can be find in 'tools'->'options'. Press
reset and re-enter the registration code.
6. Please make sure the map files(.mk2) are
in folder 'My documents'. |
Q5
My pocket PC has suffered a fatal system
crash and I am forced to do a full scale system
reset that wipes out all previous installed software including MapKing. Unfortunately,
I forgot to keep
a record of my registration codes. What
should I do ?

Launching MapKing
Q6
I have bought the Hong Kong Street Map
for Pocket PC. When I launch MapKing, why do
I only see the demo Map that only covers a small
area in Wan Chai instead of the full map ?
A6
The demo map is installed automatically
when you install the MapKing program. Its purpose
is to let you verify that MapKing has been properly
installed before you get a chance to obtain
registration code for the map product(s) you
purchased. If you have purchased the Hong Kong
Street Map that comes in a file size of approximately
13 MB, you should open it directly from the
My Documents folder. We advise you to delete
the demo map because it does not serve any
purpose in case you have purchased the
full scale Hong Kong map. |
New Products and Updates
Q7
Where can I find information about new
map products and updates to existing maps ?
A7
Please visit www.mapking.com for information about new
products and updates. We will
also send e-mails to registered users
when we have new products or updates released. |
Q8
How often do you release update to existing
maps ?
A8
Maps are updated at least once a year. |
Q9
Are updates free for existing users ?
A9
We have different update policy for different
map products. In general, all updates released
within 6 months are provided free of charge.
If you are a registered user you will receive
e-mail notification when there is an update
available for the product(s) you have purchased. |
Route Planning
Q10
Route Planning could not always generate
the optimum route, why is its performance not
that consistent
?
A10
Route Planning is only meant to provide
a crude reference instead of an absolute guideline.
Please refer “IMPORTANT
MESSAGE CONCERNING ROUTE PLANNING” in page
1. |
Q11 Do
you have any plan to improve Route Planning
performance ?
A11
We have plans that are already in progress
to improve Route Planning by fine-tuning the
software engine as well as enhancing
the quality of routing source data. We plan
to release updated
versions of software and map data within 2004
that would yield better route planning results compared to the current versions. |
Q12
Any hints that could make Route Planning
run more smoothly ?
A12
Since Route Planning is calculated from
the embedded road network data, you should place
the routing points either on top of or very
close to the street lines. |
| GPS
Tracking
Q13
I wonder whether my existing GPS receiver
or the GPS receiver I plan to buy is compatible
with MapKing ?
A13
MapKing
supports the standard data output protocol of
NMEA0183 used by virtually all civilian GPS
receivers. Compatibility issue mainly occurs
on the hardware interface platform between your
PC and the GPS receiver. You should consult
the technical specifications or the dealer of
your PC and receiver to make sure that the two
can be connected. For instance, problem might
occur if you have an older type of receiver
that outputs signals through serial com port
whereas your brand new Pentium 4 notebook doesn’t
have serial port interface. |
Q14
Is there anything I must do before I
can start using GPS tracking ?
A14
You must “scan” your receiver before
you use it for the first time. This is a one-off
handshaking process to let the system recognize
signals feeding from the receiver. |
Q15
GPS Status Window says “GPS is warming
up..”, I’ve been waiting for a long time and
still couldn’t get any positioning signal at
all.
A15
Please acquire the initial GPS signals at a
spot with a clear view of the sky and away from
high-rising building structure. Acquiring the
initial satellite fix is called “Cold Boot”
in GPS terminology and the process might take
more than a few minutes. If you cannot get any
signal even
trying to do so at a good reception spot and
there is no error message while
“scanning” your receiver, you might have
a faulty receiver and you should contact the device dealer for a maintenance checkup. |
Q16
Is there a rough estimation about the
accuracy of GPS signals ?
A16
Average precision at good reception spot
is about 10-15 meters. This is however a rough
estimation NOT based on scientific research. |
Technical Support and Further Enquiry
Q17
How can I get further technical support
and answers to questions not covered in this
